PML-N wants Saqib Nisar behind bars if ex-CJ G-B statement against him is true

LAHORE: PML-N Senior Vice-President and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the statement by a former chief judge of the apex court Gilgit-Baltistan Rana Shamim further exposed how Imran Khan was brought into power through “an organized and institutionalized rigging” in the 2018 elections.

Addressing a press conference on Monday with senior PML-N leader Khawaja Asif, Abbasi revealed that Shamim recorded his statement about Nisar before an oath commissioner in London.

“Shamim has alleged that Nisar had given instructions to keep former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz in jail till the general elections in 2018,” said Abbasi.

He said, “Nawaz was ousted from the prime minister’s chair and later through national politics not because of any wrongdoing but because of a carefully orchestrated scheme in 2017, the schemers and doers of which are being exposed.”

“Three people, including Rana Shamin and Saqib Nisar, are aware of the facts, but the people of Pakistan must also know the truth. If someone meddles with elections, do not we hold the right to question them? How can a country function when justice is not only blatantly denied, but the top officials of the justice system illegally and unconstitutionally interfere in the electoral process? When will this juggle with the lives of people, the future of this country for selfish and petty personal interests and agendas end?” he questioned.

Abbasi said that when the people wanted to know that if a thrice elected PM of Pakistan could not get justice in the country, how could a common man get justice, especially when they see a chief justice involved in such practices.
Keeping these newly revealed bombshell facts, one could only imagine how Judge Bashir Muhammad would have made this decision, he added.

The PML-N leader prayed that former CJP Nisar would not be involved in all this, but if he was, how can the people of Pakistan trust the justice system.

“This is not just a matter of keeping a former prime minister behind bars illegally, but it is a matter of robbing the nation’s constitutional right to elect a leader of their choice,” he said.

“If Rana Shamim’s statement is false, he should be punished for it, but if his statement is true, former CJP Saqib Nisar must be thrown behind bars. If the thrice elected prime minister of Pakistan can be jailed, why cannot a former chief justice”, Abbasi asked.

He said that such frauds with the nation and unconstitutional interference in the electoral process were the real cause of the multiple crises Pakistan was facing.

Asif told reporters that Rana Shamim’s statement exposed the constitutional institutions of Pakistan, including the courts, the NAB and the Election Commission of Pakistan allegedly involved in the grand scheme of hijacking the 2018 election,

“Shamim recorded his statement ‘without any coercion,’ and the PML-N will now raise this issue in the parliament,” said Asif.
