LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker Parvez Elahi on Saturday notified the appointment of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) MPA Sajid Ahmad Khan Bhatti as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.

The lawmaker was elected unopposed after no other member contested his elevation to the top seat.

Speaker Elahi, who is part of the PML-Q, said that the party was “deeply grateful” to all the government and opposition members who expressed confidence in Bhatti.

PML-Q Punjab chapter president thanked PAC members Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, Malik Ahmad Ali Olakh, Khawaja Salman Rafique, Muhammad Kazim Pirzada, Samiullah Khan, Rana Munawwar Hussain, Muhammad Ayub Khan, Nawabzada Wasim Khan Badozai and Ghulam Ali Asghar Khan Lahri.

“PML-Q is at the forefront of the effective legislation process in the Punjab Assembly,” said the speaker. Bhatti is a well-rounded young parliamentarian and he will run the affairs of the committee through mutual consultation, he added.

Bhatti, who is the son of Ahmad Khan Bhatti, was born on February 28, 1985, in Lahore.

The lawmaker graduated in 2005 from Government College University, Lahore. He is an agriculturist and a businessman by profession and entered the assembly after winning the PP-67 seat in the 2018 general elections.

Bhatti has also worked as parliamentary secretary for school education during 2019-2021. He has also served as a member of the Punjab Higher Education Commission and Punjab Emergency Council.

His father served as vice chairman, District Council Mandi Bahauddin during 1998-99; and as chairman, Union Council Bhoa Hassan during 1992-93.
