QUETTA: During a crackdown on young doctors, police on Sunday arrested 19 doctors, paramedics staff and other people from a red zone area in Quetta for blocking road.

An FIR has been lodged against the arrested people for blocking road and violating the Criminal Law Ordinance and coronavirus standard operating procedures.

The young doctors and other people had been staging sit-in for about one week near red zone area seeking fulfillment of their demands.

The Balochistan High Court had directed the doctors to end their protest sit-in.

On November 27, the Balochistan government had issued the Criminal Law Ordinance.

As per the statute, those carrying out rallies and staging sit-ins on the streets could be arrested without a warrant. On establishing the charges, a session court and first-class magistrate would have the authority to impose fine or sentence imprisonment to the culprit.

In case of violation of the ordinance, the culprit could be punished with three to six months imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000.

It is pertinent here to mention that the ordinance has come into effect in the province after approval of the Balochistan governor.
