In a surprise turn of events, days after Dr Noman Niaz apologised to Shoaib Akhtar for his conduct during a TV show Game On Hai, PTV has served a legal notice to the cricket star claiming damages worth Rs100 million.

Akhtar had resigned from the show following a spat between him and the show’s host Dr Noman Niaz.

According to the notice, Akhtar had resigned from the channel on October 26 which was not only a breach of contract but also caused the channel to suffer huge losses.

“As per clause 22, both sides shall have right to terminate his agreement by serving three months’ written notice or payment in lieu thereof. Whereas, Shoaib Akhtar resigned on air on October 26 which has resulted into huge financial losses to PTV,” the notice read.

It further added that Akhtar left for Dubai during T20 World Cup transmission without any prior information to the PTV management.

“Besides, appearance on an Indian TV show along with Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh, which also caused irreparable losses to PTV,” it added.

PTV has demanded the star to pay Rs100 million in damages with a three-month salary worth Rs333,300. The channel added that it holds the right to commence legal actions against Akhtar in case of failing to submit the aforementioned amount.

Akhtar expressed his “utter disappointment’ on Twitter over the legal notice served to him.

“After miserably failing to safeguard my respect and repute while I was working for PTV, they have now sent me a recovery notice,” he said.

He further said that he was a fighter and will not give up, vowing to fight the legal battle.

He further mentioned that his lawyer, Salman Khan Niazi, will be taking the matter forward according to the law.

An on-air spat between Akhtar and Niaz

Shoaib Akhtar and host Dr Noman Niaz were taken off the show until the matter was resolved.

The spat between Akhtar and Niaz started when the panellists were analysing the Pakistan team’s performance in their face-off against New Zealand in the 2021 World Cup, which they won by five wickets after a hard-fought contest.

As a result of miscommunication between Akhar and Niaz over which bowler Akhtar was talking about, the host triggered and said, “You are being a little rude so I don’t want to say this but if you’re being over-smart then you can go. I am saying this on air.”

Later on, Akhtar and Niaz declared the situation as a pre-planned stunt. However, the fastest bowler had asked the host to apologise to him, which the host refused, and eventually, Akhtar resigned from the channel in the presence of the cricket legends including Sir Vivan Richards and David Gower.
