LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Information Technology and Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun has appreciated the Punjab Information Technology Board for promoting entrepreneurship spirit among the youth.

Speaking during a panel discussion on startup ecosystem at the Pakistan Pavilion, Dubai Expo, he said the event would help bring foreign investment in Pakistan.

Commencing on October 2021, six-month long expo will conclude on March 31, 2022. The Pakistan Pavilion is showcasing success stories from Pakistan in front of a global audience. As many as 20 startups from Punjab are participating in the expo.

These were selected by the IT experts after careful evaluation. The Startup Punjab Portal was also officially launched as part of the Startup Punjab initiative during the international business conference, he said.

“Dubai Expo has given Pakistani startups and the IT industry the opportunity to show their potential and skills to a global audience. This will help in attracting foreign investments to support the entrepreneurs in Pakistan”, Humayun said.

“Startup Punjab Portal developed by PITB aims at bridging the disconnect between Pakistani startups and international stakeholders, boost the ICT industry nationwide and expand the footprint of Pakistan on the global entrepreneurship landscape,” he said.

“PITB is overseeing several initiatives aimed at grooming the startups and training of youth to enable them to set up successful businesses and benefit from the international freelancing platforms,” PITB chairman Azfar Manzoor said.

The Punjab IT Board signed two MoUs in Dubai. First was with the Pakistan Business Council Dubai, a non-profitable organisation working under the patronage of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Second one was with the Pakistan Overseas Community Global with its central secretariat in London, United Kingdom.

The MoUs were signed by Azfar Manzoor in the presence of Raja Yassir Humayun. A documentary film was also shown, highlighting Punjab’s IT potential.
