LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif reached out to the opposition in a bid to develop a mutual ‘joint strategy’ regarding rising inflation in the country and the NAB Ordinance amendment before the joint session of the parliament.

Sharif on Friday telephoned Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) President Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, Chairman Balochistan National Party (BNP) Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal, Head of Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Aftab Ahmed Khan Shairpao, Awami National Party (ANP) Central Leader Aimal Wali Khan, Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan (JUP) Secretary-General Shah Awais Noorani, and Dr Malik Baloch of National Party and Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Sirajul Haq and deliberated over the issues the country was facing.

During the telephonic conversations, the leaders agreed on a joint strategy, in and outside the parliament, against the skyrocketing inflation in the country.

They agreed that the people were unable to bear the burden of inflation and wanted to “get rid of this (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) government.”

If the government was allowed to complete its term, the country and its people would not survive, they stressed.

The opposition also discussed ways to oppose the NAB Ordinance amendment at every forum inside and outside the parliament. According to them, “the corrupt ruling government was trying to cover its crimes with the black law.”

The “incompetence and corruption” of the PTI government had broken all previous precedents,” said Sharif.

‘Clueless and cruel government’

Reacting to the recent increase in petrol price, the PML-N leader said that the price hike would jack up the cost of everything and revealed that “Imran Khan’s government was planning a further increase in POL prices through petroleum development levy on the orders of the IMF.”

“Soon, electricity tariffs would also jump because the government’s talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have failed,” he added and claimed, “Pakistan will not progress under such a “clueless and cruel government.”

“The cosmetic measurements, lip-service, transfers and postings are all pointless as the only solution to this self-created crisis is the removal of Imran Khan and his terrible government. This government is only destroying the country”, said the PML-N leader.

He said, “In over three years of the PTI government, cooking oil price jumped to Rs130 per litre, the price of chapati and naan went up to Rs12 and Rs15 respectively. But the government was indifferent to the plight of the people,” and so, Sharif added, “[Prime Minister] Imran Khan must resign.”
