LAHORE: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has urged the chambers to give recommendations to the federal and provincial governments for devising long-term economic policies.

Talking to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Mian Nauman Kabir at a local hotel on Friday, he offered to convene a conference of chambers to get feedback for devising a collective economic agenda.

“All chambers should sit together to prepare guidelines for the provincial and federal governments. The Sindh government is ready to arrange a two-day conference of all the chambers on a common economic agenda,” Murad Ali Shah said.

Kabir said that the business community is facing difficulties in inter-provincial trade due to dual taxation and the LCCI and the Sindh government should work together to deal with such issues.

He suggested the political parties sign a charter of economy for putting the country back on track in the post-Covid-19 era. The economy is at a recovery phase that needs support from all the segments, particularly, from the politicians.

Kabir invited the Sindh chief minister to visit LCCI and have a meaningful interaction with the business community.

He also shared the LCCI initiatives for promoting trade and economic activities.

“I am focusing on e-commerce, information technology and livestock, as these sectors have huge untapped potential,” he said.

Referring to the negative impact of the rupee depreciation, the LCCI president said, it has increased the cost of doing business.

The historic depreciation of the rupee has been recorded during the ongoing financial year, he said and urged the government to take immediate measures to curb rupee depreciation.

He also expressed concern over inflation, saying that though it was due to the Covid-19 still the government could provide relief to the masses.
