UAE signs deal to buy two Airbus military aircraft costing $680 million

DUBAI: The UAE Ministry of Defence has signed a contract to purchase two Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) for 2.6 billion dirhams ($680 million), Arab News reported.

The new aerial re-fuelling tanker aircraft will add to the ministry’s existing fleet of three A330 MRTTs, it announced in a press conference.

The ministry also signed deals with Thales, and Goodrich Corporation, a spokesperson confirmed, adding that the ministry is set to announce more agreements over the next few days at the Dubai Airshow.

Meanwhile, the UAE’s Edge Group announced it won an 11 billion dirham contract to service the UAE Air Force and Air Defence aircraft.

The deal sets out Edge’s role in providing maintenance, repair, and overhauling of the UAE military aircraft, as well as performing specialised support services, the company said in a statement.
