50th martyrdom anniversary of Major Muhammad Akram today

The 50th martyrdom anniversary of Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed, a recipient of Nishan-e-Haider, is being observed on Sunday (today).

He was born on April 4, 1938 in a small village named Dinga near Kharian Cantt.

Pakistan Army has paid rich tribute to Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed for his supreme sacrifice and valour.

In a tweet, Director General Inter Services Public Relations Major General Babar Iftikhar said the ‘Hero of Battle of Hilli’ during 1971 war will always be remembered for his resolve and courage against all odds.

According to the details, Malik Muhammad Akram Awan was born on April 4, 1938, in Dinga district of Gujarat.

In 1959, he was sent to East Pakistan as a Naik. In 1961, in he received commission in the army, while serving in the Frontier Force Regiment. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1965. He served in the Zafarwal Sector in the 1965 Pak-India War and was promoted to Major in 1970.

Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed is one of the veteran officers of the Pakistan Army who sacrificed his life for the defence of the motherland.

He was martyred on December 5, 1971 while defending a train station in District Dinajpur in East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh).
