Nigeria, Malawi, and Egypt have been added to Canada’s list of countries where travel is restricted in terms of the new Omicron version of COVID-19, increasing the number of nations affected by the ban to 10.
The three African countries were added to a list of seven announced by Ottawa in reaction to a new variant of the coronavirus having been detected in the region.
Foreign nationals who have visited any of those nations during the last 14 days are not allowed to enter Canada.

During a press conference, Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos announced the expansion of the list, stating that Canadian citizens and permanent residents who transited through those countries two weeks before returning home will be tested upon arrival at the airport and quarantined until their results are known.
He also said that all flying visitors to Canada from countries other than the United States will be tested for COVID-19 at the airport, regardless of whether they are vaccinated or not, and will be required to self-isolate until their results are returned.
