Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, on Thursday, welcomed the decision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to constitute technical committees on the matters related to Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and voting right for overseas Pakistanis.

In a tweet, he also assured that the government would extend full cooperation to the ECP in this regard.

“The decision of the Election Commission to form technical committees on EVMs and voting rights to overseas Pakistanis is commendable. The decisions of the parliament are respectful to all institutions,” said Chaudhry.

“The role of the chairman and members of the Election Commission is very important in the elections, and the government will extend all possible cooperation to the Election Commission,” the minister added.

Last month, a joint session of parliament was ended with the House passing 33 crucial bills, including the controversial Election (Second Amendment) Bill 2021, and granting voting rights to overseas Pakistanis.

The Election (Second Amendment) Bill 2021has been one of the most controversial bills of the government as it would enable the ECP to use EVMs in polls.

The government considers overseas Pakistanis as an asset and has long been wanting to involve them in policy and decision-making.
