KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman on Friday demanded establishment of a commission regarding china-cutting, a practice pioneered by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in which amenity plots are sliced to be sold.

Referring to the Local Government (Amendment) Bill, 2021 recently passed by the Sindh government in absence of the opposition leaders, the JI Karachi chief said the provincial government had snatched all the powers from the local government through the law.

He alleged that the MQM had agreed to the PPP’s bill. Educational institutions and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital were also taken away from the local government, he said. He said the Sindh government had taken control of the local bodies institutions because it wanted to hire people for them on the basis of ethnicity.

He also rued over back-to-back suicide incidents in Karachi and said that only Foodpanda jobs were left in the fate of our children. “In one week three children committed suicide due to unemployment,” he said.

He also said that the megalopolis of more than 30 million population had not a single bus run by the government. Metros were running in Lahore and our children travelled on motorcycles and chingchis, he maintained.

The JI leader also criticised the MQM for its politics saying that when the party had the government and complete authority on its back it did not make Karachi a province. He said the MQM supported the quota system and recent census.

He said the MQM leaders were involved in helping the land grabbers seize land in the city.
