Police suspect SBC secretary’s assailants to be expert target killers

KARACHI: The investigation officer on Thursday said the motorcycle-riding assailant appeared to be a target killer through the manner in which he shot bullets at Sindh Bar Council Secretary Irfan Mehr in Gulistan-e-Johar area of Karachi a day ago.

The investigation officer said the suspects had their covered their faces during the incident.

The IO said the phone call data received at the site of the incident before and after the killing is being inspected. Forensics of bullet shells of the suspects’ guns is also being carried out, he said adding that a 30-bore pistol was used in the targeted killing.

Police said they were trying to identify the suspects through the surveillance camera footages obtained from the site of the incident, the school and other locations.

A case in Irfan Mehr murder case was lodged at Shahra-e-Faisal police station last night.

Irfan Mehr was shot dead by target killers on a motorcycle on Wednesday morning. According to preliminary investigation, the police believed that the incident was a result of a targetted killing.

Prominent lawyer leader Naeem Qureshi and a large number of other lawyers had rushed to the spot and took the injured to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The police had said that the target killers fired several shots at Irfan and managed to escape without any resistance.
