The Sri Lankan factory manager, Priyantha Kumara, was beaten to death on Friday in Sialkot and set ablaze by a mob over allegations of blasphemy.

Terming the incident a “horrific vigilante attack”, Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that he would personally oversee an investigation and called it “a day of shame for Pakistan”.

“Shocking to see the brutal and fatal attack on Priyantha Diyawadana by extremist mobs in Pakistan. My heart goes out to his wife and family,” said Sri Lankan PM Rajapaksa in his statement on Twitter.

Rajapaksa said, “Sri Lanka and her people are confident that PM Imran Khan will keep to his commitment to bring all those involved to justice.”

Several video clips shared on social media showed a mob beating Kumara. Other clips showed his body set ablaze, as well as the overturned wreckage of what was said to be his car.

Many in the mob made no attempt to hide their identity, and some took selfies in front of the burning corpse.

The incident shocked Pakistanis, and the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa also called it a “cold-blooded and shameful murder.”

“Such acts have no place in our faith and country,” said Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi today.

The Sialkot incident took place on the Wazirabad Road where most of the factories are located.

As per the report, the incident happened at 11 am, in the absence of factory owners, and at least 120 people were arrested for their involvement in the attack.
