ISLAMABAD: Sri Lanka High Commissioner Mohan Wijewickrama on Monday expressed satisfaction over Pakistan’s action in the case of lynching of a Sri Lankan man in Sialkot.

Mohan Wijewickrama said this during a meeting with a delegation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Executive Committee members which included Lt Gen (retd) Naeem Lodhi, Shunila Ruth and Nilofar Bakhtiar. The delegation paid a visit to the embassy to condole over the death of the Sri Lankan national.

The ambassador said the Pakistani government promptly took action against the incident and he was satisfied with the government’s measures.

He also said that the incident would have no effect on relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. “Pakistan and Sri Lanka are old friends and the friendly ties will go on,” he said.

Punjab Police on Monday arrested seven more suspects involved in lynching of a Sri Lankan man in Sialkot, Bol News reported.

On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, the police continued raids against the suspects and arrested six more people during the last 13 hours after identifying them through videos and mobile calls data.

The police said the seven arrested people included the ones involved in the planning of the attack, torturing and inciting others for anarchy in the incident.
