Watch video: African lion plays tug of war with safari jeep

When a safari jeep of tourists in South Africa became stuck in a ditch, they got some ‘help’ from an unexpected ‘visitor’ – an African lion! A video of the beast yanking on a rope tied to the jeep is causing a stir on the internet right now.

When the jeep got trapped in the jungle route, Jabulani Salinda of Baobab Ridge Game Lodge was leading a trip around Baobab Ridge in Greater Kruger. The vehicle carried a tow line to help in such circumstances, but it was the enthusiastic wildcat that stepped up to pull at it, starting a tug of war!

The male was identified as Vuyela by the lodge beneath its post. “Look who came to ‘help’ with our tow rope! Cats will be cats!”

As the truck attempted to drive away, the lion was observed pressing his paws into the ground and attempting to tie the rope around a nearby tree for added force.

Many people thought it was a negligent move after the video went viral, forcing the tourism firm to clarify that, “it wasn’t done to intentionally attract or play with the animal.”

The company claimed in a Facebook post to its followers, “The Guide got stuck with guests on his vehicle and had attached the tow rope to get pulled out. Before it could be removed the lion showed up and I guess it instinctively did what cats do.”

Here’s the link to the video:

While some social media users described the episode as frightening, others claimed it was a memorable encounter that should be remembered for the rest of one’s life.
