Karachi: Young Doctors Association (YDA) staged a token protest at the Civil Hospital for the third consecutive day, threatening to boycott OPD from Monday onwards if their demands were not met.

Addressing the protesters, Dr Waris Ali Jakhrani, Dr Mohsin, Dr Amir Jarwar said that for the last one year, they have held several meetings with the officials of Sindh Health Department and presented their demands.

“But their priorities do not include resolving the problems of patients and doctors working in the hospital,” they said.

They said that working doctors are being deprived of their basic rights

“They are also working class people and want their children to be educated,” they said.

“We have been asking for their demands again and again for over a year and are being forced to protest after being left without an option,” they said.

They further added that in view of the plight of the patients, they protested only for a symbolic two hours so that the authorities might wake up from their slumber.

They further added that the doctors have been protesting for three consecutive days but their demands have not yet been accepted.

“They do not care about the problem of patients and doctors,” they commented.

They further added that the Sindh Health Department has made it a point that unless the hospitals are closed, as long as the patients are not disturbed, they do not pay any attention to solving these problems.

“Now we have to boycott the full OPD and ward duty from Monday because there is no other way left,” they said.
