KARACHI: The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) has suspended for a year one of the students involved in a viral video of a party hosted on campus, while another student’s access to the varsity has been removed.

On the orders of IBA’s Executive Director Akbar Zaidi, the varsity’s Student Conduct Committee “investigated” the situation relating to the viral video, according to a statement.

“Following the findings of the committee, one of the students involved in the matter has been suspended for one year and the second student has been barred from entering the IBA premises revoking campus access, revoking hostel access, and access to any other institutional facilities and services for the rest of the academic year,” said the statement.

The university “strongly” condemned the “activity which is against the norms, ethics, rules and regulations” of the institution and said that it “will take appropriate action whenever IBA’s Code of Conduct is breached”.

“The executive director has instructed the management to ensure that our student Code of Conduct is strictly followed in letter and spirit. All social and musical events at the IBA premises have been put on hold until further notice,” said the statement.

The institution also stated that Zaidi has convened a meeting of the Board of Governors to update the members on the situation.

An “inappropriate” video of a program in which some students engaged in a party at IBA’s Karachi campus went viral earlier this week, according to reports.

Following the event, IBA professors and alumni issued a flood of emails to the administration, sharply denouncing such behaviour.
