CM Murad Ali Shah admits delay in response to Mehar village incident

ISLAMABAD: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah admitted on Thursday that the response of the Sindh government to the Mehar village tragedy was slow and said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a compensation of Rs10 million to the affected families.

Addressing a presser in Islamabad, CM Shah maintained that PM’s announcement for the victims of the incident was a good sign. “Former Prime Minister Imran Khan never telephoned on such incidents,” he added.

While admitting the slow response to the incident, the CM clarifies that the fire tender deployed near Mehar village was nonfunctional which resulted in casualties.

He also informed the media that the Sindh government has formed the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate the fire incident in the village.

Notably, the Mehar village, Dadu fire incident occurred on late Monday night that killed eight children and a woman.

The fire that reportedly erupted in the kitchen of a hut rapidly engulfed the neighbourhood and exposed the incompetence of Sindh government.

The locals claimed that the concerned authorities didn’t show up on time and the fire resulted in casualties and loss of more than 160 livestock.

The villagers urged the Sindh government in a protest to take notice of the attitude shown by the concerned authorities.
