LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Saturday said Hamza Shehbaz cannot be accepted as the chief minister as the election never took place and Usman Buzdar’s resignation was rejected by the governor.

Talking to the media after the oath-taking ceremony of Hamza Shehbaz as the Punjab Chief Minister, he raised the point, “How could Hamza Shehbaz be accepted as chief minister when the election never took place.”

Pervaiz Elahi said he, being the other candidate in the chief minister election, was assaulted at the behest of Hamza Shehbaz. He added that the election is not conducted from the assembly’s gallery.

He added that the prevailing situation has led the province into a constitutional crisis.

The speaker said, “The president [of Pakistan] will not stay silent over what happened with the governor.” In some days; there will be no government,” he claimed.

Elahi said the chief secretary and the IG police captured the governor house in the wee hours which he would investigate.
