Laylat Al Qadr: a night when prayers are answered

Laylat Al Qadr is the night of destiny or value, which falls during the Holy month of Ramadan in the last Ashra, when spirituality reaches unprecedented heights. Muslims experience five Laylat Al Qadr in the last 10 days of Ramadan, in the odd-numbered nights. However, Muslims believe that the eve of the 27th Ramadan is considered the holiest, Laylat al-Qadr.

Laylat Al Qadr celebrates the night more than 14 centuries ago when the Quran was originally revealed to the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) in Makkah, and is highly regarded and anxiously anticipated by the faithful.

It’s also a period when the devout are most likely to pray and expect their prayers to be answered.

According to tradition, the importance of Laylat Al Qadr to Muslims cannot be stressed enough as a particular moment when the heavens open for prayers and angels descend to Earth to be close to the faithful.

An oft-quoted Quranic verse says: “Laylat Al Qadr is better than a thousand months.”

Nearly 1,500 years after the Quran’s revelation, there is still much debate on the signals of Laylat Al Qadr.

One unmistakable clue is that it always falls on an odd-numbered day during the last ten days of Ramadan.

That is, it only occurs on the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th night of the month.
