Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shehbaz Sharif has been elected as the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan.
National Assembly (NA) Speaker Ayaz Sadiq announced that Shehbaz Sharif secured 174 votes to become the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan.
NA session was underway to select the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan after ousting former Prime Minister Imran Khan through a no-confidence vote in the wee hours of Sunday.
The Leader of the House was elected through voting that took place in the NA lobby reserved for the purpose.
After the completion of the voting process, the counting took place followed by the announcement of the name by the NA speaker.
It should be noted that 172 votes are required to be elected as Leader of the House in the 342-member House.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were competing for the top slot. Later, Qureshi resigned from his seat with his party’s lawmakers, leaving the slot open for Shehbaz Sharif.
