Millions of people will be able to view the solar eclipse this weekend from the comfort of their own homes. The first solar eclipse of 2022 will occur on Saturday, April 30, and will be visible from Antarctica, South America, and the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.

The partial eclipse will not be visible to the naked eye in the UK, but you will be able to watch it livestreamed on the night, according to the Mirror. The partial solar eclipse of April 2022 will begin at 6.45 p.m., with the greatest eclipse occurring at 8.41 p.m., and the eclipse concluding at 10.37 p.m.

When the moon passes between the earth and the sun, it partially conceals the sun as seen from Earth, causing a solar eclipse. The sun takes on a crescent shape, as if a “bite” has been taken out of it.

The eclipse on Saturday is the first of two partial solar eclipses planned in 2022, with the second scheduled for October 25. Unfortunately, another total solar eclipse will not occur until 2023.

However, on May 16, barely two weeks later, there will be a total lunar eclipse, which occurs when the moon passes through the shadow of the earth. It can only happen when the sun, earth, and moon are all very near together, with the earth between the other two – and only on a full moon night.
