This week, an unexpected visitor came to visit a Florida family for a swim. According to a Facebook post made Tuesday by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, an almost-11-foot alligator was recently discovered in the pool of a family in Charlotte County.

According to the Facebook post, the alligator was 10 feet 11 inches long and weighed over 550 pounds. “Always examine your pool before diving in,” the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said in the post.

The sheriff’s office reported, “A Deep Creek family was awoken by some loud noises on their lanai and walked out to discover this person taking a plunge in their pool.”

He tore through the screen to get to the pleasant, refreshing water,” the post stated, alongside many photographs of the animal. Officers were seen taking the animal from the premises in one photograph.

According to a South Carolina-based animal control officer, now that the weather is warmer, it’s alligator mating season, which means more alligators are out and about.

The gator was caught and put into a canal distant from the school by police officials. Officers in Charleston, South Carolina, retrieved another 6-foot alligator from near a local school last week.
