During the Uvalde mass shooting on Tuesday, an 11-year-old allegedly smeared blood over herself and went into “survival mode,” and her father tells that the quick-thinking pre-teen is still frightened after seeing her teacher and classmates mowed down.

Miah Cerrillo, 11, escaped the shooting but saw the deaths of her classmates and instructor, according to her aunt, Blanca Rivera, who talked with Click 2 Houston. According to the story, Cerrillo smeared blood on her face and went into survival mode after watching her friends shot to death.

“My sister-in-law reported that [Miah] saw her friend full of blood, so she went and grabbed blood and smeared it on herself,” Rivera explained. “She had gunshot pieces in her back, according to my brother.”

The 11-year-old appeared to be well until Tuesday night when she returned home and had a panic attack.

“Around midnight, my sister-in-law contacted me and said, ‘I think it just hit Miah.’ Everything, I believe, became a reality. We’ve arrived home, and she’s weeping and having a panic attack “Rivera stated.
