Belarus will not take part in Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, according to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who spoke to The Associated Press on Thursday (AP).

Belarus stands for peace, according to Lukashenko, who has consistently urged for an end to the ongoing armed confrontation between Russia and Ukraine.

“Any conflict is completely unacceptable to us. We’ve done all we can to avoid a conflict, and we’re still doing it “Lukashenko told the Associated Press that his government had progressed conversations with Russia.

He claims that despite conflicts on its own, Ukraine is not interested in dialogue because of Washington’s position.

The deployment of nuclear weapons in the situation, according to the president, is “unacceptable since it’s right next to us — we’re not across the water like the US.”

“It’s also unacceptable because it may send our terrestrial ball shooting out into space,” he explained. “Whether Russia is capable of it is a question you should pose to the Russian leadership.”

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko claims that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin have the finest relationship possible between presidents of sovereign states.

Lukashenko said the unexpected inspection of Belarus’ Armed Forces on Wednesday was conducted out in reaction to NATO manoeuvres in the Baltic states and Poland on Belarus’ border.

According to Lukashenko, the number of NATO troops stationed on Belarus’s border was approximately 3,000 a few years ago, but has since risen to around 32,000.
