According to a US study, the accident of a China Eastern Airlines plane might have been planned.

On March 21, a Boeing 737-800 crashed into the mountains of Guangxi while flying from Kunming to Guangzhou.

All 123 passengers and nine crew members on board were murdered.

The Wall Street Journal claimed late Tuesday that flight data from one of the plane’s black boxes suggested that the plane was purposefully wrecked.

According to the article, persons acquainted with a preliminary evaluation conducted by US officials said there was no sign of technical issues with the plane thus far.

The investigation’s theory is either one pilot operating alone, a fight, or a passenger breaking into the cockpit.

However, the airline informed the newspaper that a cockpit incursion was unlikely, citing a March press conference at which Chinese officials stated that no emergency code was issued from the plane prior to the disaster.

During their fast descent, the pilots apparently ignored numerous pleas from air traffic authorities and neighbouring planes.

The story was not commented on by Boeing or the US National Transportation Safety Board, but China’s Civil Aviation Administration said in April that online rumours of an intentional crash had “gravely deceived the public” and “interfered with the accident investigation process.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, the airline stated that no information had surfaced that could indicate whether or not the plane had any issues.

The 737-800, which preceded Boeing’s 737 MAX, has been in service since 1997 and has a solid safety record.

It lacks the systems connected to the 737 MAX disasters in 2018 and 2019, which killed hundreds of people and forced the type to be grounded worldwide.

Following the disaster, China Eastern grounded all of its 737-800s, but flights resumed in April, putting an end to safety worries.

According to Chinese officials, the full study into the incident might take more than two years to complete.
