The Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas was placed on lockdown Tuesday as police reacted to an “active shooter” who has been apprehended, according to authorities.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety and Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin, one person was shot and the shooter had barricaded himself inside the school.

“At Robb Elementary, there is an active shooter. There is law enforcement on the scene “The school shared the news on Facebook. “At this time, your participation is required by not visiting the school.”

The identity of the alleged shooter has not been revealed.

“Robb Elementary pupils are being transferred to the Willie DeLeon Civic Center for reunification,” the school announced afterward.

The school lockdown was originally reported by the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District at 11:43 a.m. local time.

“Please be aware that all campuses are now under lockdown due to gunfire in the neighborhood. In the buildings, children and employees are safe “In a message to parents, the district stated.

The district requested that parents refrain from picking up their children and that all pupils be tallied before being released. Parents will be alerted when their children are ready to be picked up.

About 80 miles west of San Antonio lies Robb Elementary.
