Following the police crackdown on PTI activists in Sialkot, the former information minister Fawad Chaudhry accused the PML-N of using the religion card again and dividing people.

The PTI leadership reached Sialkot ahead of the political party’s public gathering scheduled tonight.

Unlike previous PTI rallies, the preparations in Sialkot didn’t go smoothly as the administration launched a crackdown on the PTI activists present in the CTI Ground.

The administration also used a crane to remove the stage after which the PTI workers lay down in front of the machine. Following this, the police started shelling and baton-charge and PTI leader Usman Dar and other workers were arrested.

Later, the PTI activists were released from jail to defuse the tension.

The administration contended that the rally was being organised at a privately-owned ground of the Christian community.

Addressing a presser, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said the protests cannot be stopped through such tactics. He said the people are demonstrating across the country after the Sialkot incident.

Fawad said that the PML-N once again tried to use the religion card. He noted that Khawaja Asif recently organised a programme on the same ground and said that PML-N in the past arranged cricket matches at the venue.

He said the Aashiana Housing Scheme is built on the land owned by the Presbyterian Church. He added that the PML-N should evacuate that grabbed land first and others from the PML-N cabinet members if it is so empathetic of the minority community.

He added that a leader’s job is to unite the people but PML-N wants to drive a wedge between them.

To a question, Fawad said the Sialkot incident has been orchestrated by the PML-N leadership in Lahore and London.
