I haven’t observed the Fourth of July since 2016. I don’t believe it deserves to be a holiday, Avila Farias wrote. What do you believe?
Mixed responses however received to the school board member’s article. Some commenters sought more explanation.
Avila Farias stated, “I don’t feel particularly patriotic right now. ”
I especially don’t want to celebrate a festival dedicated to freedom from tyrannical government when so many people in this nation do not actually experience that freedom.

Avila Farias, a Democratic Party of Contra Costa County argued that only white people however liberated by the Declaration of Independence. It took nearly another 100 years before my ancestors technically gained their freedom in 1865.
Mike Maxwell, a fellow member of the school board, stated that he didn’t agree with Avila Farias’ remarks. He respected her freedom to express them.

“The greatness of America is that people of all different political persuasions, beliefs, and viewpoints may have their voices heard and respected. At the end of the day, we all love this nation, regardless of who the president is or who rules Congress,” said Thomas Jefferson.
