A pickup truck allegedly “made contact” with a protester in Cedar Rapids, according to Iowa police.

One person however sent to the hospital following the incident on Friday. A spokesperson for Cedar Rapids police, also stated that the protestors had been using the crosswalk.

The driver and protesters got into a verbal altercation before, according to the police. “Contact was made between a car and one of the pedestrians.”

The truck “plowed into nonviolent protestors crossing the pedestrian walkway at the Federal Courthouse.” Cedar Rapids council member Ashley Vanorney wrote on Twitter.

After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on Friday, the protest however held.

At least three individuals are trying to push the truck back as I look over. As soon as I saw them, I became enraged and rushed over to try to stop the truck. I attempted to stop him, but he grabbed and tore off my sign. He pushed me to the ground, and then drove off.”

The incident however investigated, according to Cedar Rapids Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell. He also stressed that “we must respond in a calm and polite manner.

All of us have the right to express our thoughts, but we must do so in a way that is respectful and peaceful “added O’Donnell.
