New Delhi: According to a police official, a former Wells Fargo executive has been detained on suspicion of urinating on a fellow passenger on an Air India flight.

Shankar Mishra, the former vice president of the bank’s Indian business, was wanted by authorities after an elderly woman complained to the airline’s management about the incident.

According to media sources, Mishra turned off his phone but stayed in touch with his friends via social media and made a credit card transaction in India’s IT capital Bangalore, revealing his location.

A police official in Delhi confirmed Mishra’s arrest to AFP without providing any other information.

Wells Fargo announced Friday that its employee had been fired following the “extremely distressing” allegations.

Mishra allegedly urinated on a 72-year-old woman seated in business class. Reports claim that he was drunk during the journey from New York to New Delhi.

The airline stated that it had failed to adequately address the issue and was evaluating its policy on supplying alcohol on flights.

“Air India recognizes that it might have handled these problems better, both in the air and on the ground, and is committed to taking action,” said CEO Campbell Wilson in a statement on Saturday.

The airline, which was recently purchased by the Tata Group conglomerate after decades under state control, has come under fire for how it handled the woman’s complaint.

India’s aviation regulator this week admonished its management for not reporting the incident at the time.
