Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates, and Alfre Woodard are going to “Summer Camp”
As reported by Deadline, Diane Keaton, Kathy Bates, and Alfre Woodard will play best friends in the upcoming feature comedy Summer Camp, which is being written and directed by Castille Landon. So pack your bags and get ready for a summer camp full with fun. Summer Camp will focus on the enjoyable aspects of camping with a relatable story at its core, unlike other summer camp settings that have long been associated with nightmare stories of camping gone bad.
The movie will centre on the friendship between Nora, Ginny, and Mary, three women who have known each other since they were young and have spent numerous summers together at sleepaway camps. The pressures of maturity, as is frequently the case, put their devotion to one another to the test, making it harder and harder for the trio to spend quality time together.
After years pass without the friends getting together, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get back together for a summer camp arises. Although some find it difficult to agree, they all eventually sign up for what may end up being the most memorable summer camp of their friendship, where they will reflect on their lives and rekindle their bond as they once did.
Oscar-winner The mere fact that Keaton, Bates, and Woodard—all accomplished industry veterans who have consistently demonstrated their indisputable talent with a bevy of spectacular performances—are involved in this project is enough to excite the interest of fans. Keaton is a darling of the comedy genre. Recently, Keaton and Richard Gere collaborated on the romantic comedy Maybe I Do, which also starred Emma Roberts. She will next appear in Book Club: The Next Chapter, the eagerly awaited Book Club sequel, where she will reteam with Jane Fonda, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen.
Recently, Kathy Bates was given a role in the upcoming CBS remake of the mystery legal drama Matlock. Are You There God? will be the next film to feature her. It’s Me, Margaret and A Family Affair on Netflix are coming out in spring and fall, respectively. Alfre Woodard, an Emmy and Golden Globe winner, just finished filming the feature The Book of Clarence. She will next be seen in the Stephen King adaptation Salem’s Lot.
Castille Landon’s resume is expanding quickly, and she already has a number of highly regarded works to her name, such as the films in the After romantic comedy series, After We Fell, and After Ever Happy, the latter of which will hit theatres this fall. She recently finished the adaptation of Claudia Tan’s book of the same name, Perfect Addiction.
“Alex, Dori (the film’s producers) and I wanted to develop a fun, high-energy comedy for Diane, that really allowed us to see women spreading their wings and taking on new life during what used to be the traditional slowed-down retirement years,” the director said in reference to her inspiration for Summer Camp. Continuing, “We came up with this concept, proposed it to Diane, who adored it, and then set out to recruit legendary actors who had long wanted to collaborate. I couldn’t be more thrilled about this. There will be no denying the chemistry… And I can’t wait to share with you the names of the other campers we have.”
Summer Camp will be produced by Tyler W. Konney, Stephanie Heaton-Harris, Alex Saks, and Dori Rath. Grant S. Johnson will serve as the executive producer, with co-producers Mariela Villa, Nicholas Erickson, and Elayne Schmidt. Saks Picture Company and Project Infinity are two of the project’s production companies.
