A director with a vision is Pedro Almodóvar. With works like Parallel Mothers and Volver, Almodóvar has consistently pushed the boundaries of cinema. With his most recent short film, Odd Way of Life, he is currently doing that. A love tale between two guys will be the focus of the West, which has drawn comparisons to movies like Brokeback Mountain due to Almodóvar’s own statements about the picture.

Little about the movie, which stars Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal, has been revealed outside the fact that it is a love story and a western, which is on purpose. Almodóvar sat down with the singer for a new podcast where they discussed a wide range of topics and he expressed his admiration for her work, as we all do when it comes to Lipa and her music.

But Lipa also questioned Almodóvar about his future movie and what he might tell her. Even while it wasn’t much, we did learn a little bit about the film, including its release date. Weird Way of Life will debut for viewers at Cannes, according to Almodóvar, who also announced that the movie would travel there.

Almodóvar disclosed the movie’s Cannes premiere on the podcast Dua Lipa: At Your Service. Before Almodóvar took over the chat in English, his translator said, “He’s not permitted to talk a lot about the western but he’s going to say something because you are Dua Lipa and he loves you.

“Odd Way of Living is the title. It will be released in May, will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, and then we will have to wait “said he. “Of course, it’s a Western and it’s about masculinity, but I don’t want to categorize it because I don’t know what the general public would think of it. In that there are two men, who love each other and act in opposition to one another under that circumstance, this is a queer western. In a profound sense, it is about masculinity.”

Then, as his translator resumes, he says “I can tell you that the movie includes many western-style themes, like gunslingers, ranch settings, and sheriff characters. It features the town and the fight, but what it lacks that most westerns do is the kind of conversation between two men that I don’t believe has ever been depicted in a western movie.” Almodóvar then says that he was giving away too much, which brings the program to a close.

We already know that Weird Way of Life will have its world premiere at Cannes Film Festival that it will shortly have a gay love story at its core and that, according to Almodóvar, the conversation is what makes it unique. We are now even more eager to watch Pascal and Hawke tackle the genre as a result.
