Raza Rabbani demands date for general polls
Islamabad: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and senator Raza Rabbani has demanded the Election Commission give a date for the general elections to avoid a constitutional crisis.
Addressing the Senate meeting, Senator Raza Rabbani said that the Punjab government has approved the new budget from October to February; this is a violation of the constitution. The same situation is going to happen in Khyber Pakhtun Khwa (KPK), and the constitution is being violated.
The veteran politician added that the Election Commission should announce when the polls are to be held; if the elections are not held in January or February, then another constitutional violation will be committed.
Raza Rabbani said that the term of half of the senate will end in March, and half of the Senate members, including the chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Senate, will retire. If the Elections Commission does not announce the date, a constitutional crisis will arise.
Earlier, Raza Rabbani has said that a Senate session should be called immediately on the situation in Gaza.
Raza Rabbani has said in one of his statements that more than 1000 buildings were destroyed in Gaza while water, food and electricity supply of 2.3 million people in Gaza is cut off.
