In a significant move into the electric vehicle market, Huawei’s new brand, Luxeed, has officially launched its first electric sedan, the Luxeed S7, in China. Developed in collaboration with joint venture partner Chery Auto, the S7 is poised to make a strong impact in the mid- to large-size sedan segment.

Luxeed S7 Variants and Pricing

The Luxeed S7 is available in four variants—Pro, Max, Max+, and Max RS—each catering to different consumer preferences. The Pro variant, starting at RMB 249,800 ($34,900), offers a compelling entry point into the Luxeed lineup, while the Max RS variant, priced at RMB 349,800 ($49,300), stands out as the most powerful and premium option.

Cutting-Edge Technology and Performance

Built on Huawei’s 800 V-based Giant Whale high-voltage platform, the Luxeed S7 boasts impressive charging capabilities. With a 5-minute charge, the S7 can achieve a range of 215 km, and a 15-minute charge extends the range to 430 km. This is a significant leap forward in fast-charging technology.

The sedan is available in both single-motor and dual-motor versions, with power ranging from 215 kW to 365 kW. The top-tier Max RS variant can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in an astonishing 3.3 seconds, placing it among the fastest electric sedans on the market.

Aerodynamics and Design

The Luxeed S7 sets itself apart with exceptional aerodynamics, boasting a drag coefficient of just 0.203 CD. This surpasses even the Tesla Model S, a renowned benchmark in electric vehicle aerodynamics.

Advanced Autonomous Driving Technology

Equipped with a sophisticated array of sensors, including lidar, radars, ultrasonic radars, and high-definition cameras, the Luxeed S7 features Huawei’s ADS 2.0 for advanced autonomous driving capabilities. The DriveOne powertrain integrates hardware components seamlessly, while HarmonyOS 4 provides the software backbone for a high-level autonomous driving experience.

NCA: Navigation Cruise Assist

Huawei, during the launch ceremony, announced its Navigation Cruise Assist (NCA), comparable to Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, will be available throughout China by the end of the year. This positions the Luxeed S7 as a formidable competitor in the autonomous driving landscape.

Overwhelming pre-sale response

Since opening bookings less than three weeks ago, the Luxeed S7 has already garnered an impressive 20,000 pre-sale orders. To sweeten the deal, customers who place their orders before December 31 will receive benefits worth 55,000 yuan ($7,800) from Huawei. Luxeed EVs will be available in Huawei’s flagship stores across China.

The Luxeed S7’s remarkable blend of cutting-edge technology, performance, and autonomous driving capabilities signals a promising future for Huawei’s automotive ventures. As the Chinese electric vehicle market continues to expand, Luxeed appears poised to make a significant impact with its flagship electric sedan.
