In a nod to its rich heritage, Toyota has unveiled the latest facelift for the iconic Land Cruiser 70 Series, a model that has stood the test of time since its inception in 1984. The 2024 refresh brings contemporary technologies to the legendary off-roader while preserving its vintage aesthetic, ensuring the Land Cruiser’s continued relevance in today’s automotive landscape.

Aesthetics and Design:

The 2024 Land Cruiser 70 Series maintains its rugged charm with a host of visual updates. LED round headlamps, projecting indicators, a chrome-infused bumper, and blocked taillights echo the design of the original, creating a timeless appeal. The UAE-spec vehicle boasts 16-inch alloy wheels with high-profile rubber tires, adding to its robust and adventurous persona.

Body Forms and Variants:

While the Japanese market is limited to the five-door SUV body design, the United Arab Emirates welcomes the shorter three-door variant, equipped with a potent V6 gasoline engine. The lineup, already featuring a single-cab truck and a five-door SUV, is soon to be completed with the introduction of a ‘Troop Carrier’ wagon, as suggested by images of a dual-cab pickup truck from Toyota Australia.

The three-door variant, measuring 640 mm shorter than its five-door counterpart, appeals to off-road enthusiasts with its compact size and maneuverability.

Interior and Technology:

Inside the Land Cruiser 70 Series, the 2024 facelift brings a blend of comfort and modernity. Nubuck and synthetic leather upholstery adorn the seats, complementing the 9-inch infotainment system. The infotainment system features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a 2-speaker audio setup, and power windows. Despite having only two front airbags, the safety kit receives an upgrade with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including Lane Departure Assist and a Pre-Collision System.

Performance and powertrain:

In contrast to the Japanese market, where turbodiesel engines are available, buyers in the UAE have a singular gasoline powertrain option. The 4.0-liter V6 24V Dual VVT-i (1GR-FE) engine generates 228 hp of power and 360 Nm of torque. The power is transmitted to all four wheels via a robust 4WD system and a 6-speed Super ECT automatic gearbox, ensuring the Land Cruiser’s prowess both on and off the road.

Pricing and Availability:

The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series 3-Door hardtop is available in the United Arab Emirates in a single trim level, with prices starting at AED 169,900 ($46,300). The corresponding five-door variant begins at AED 179,900 ($49,000). This pricing strategy aims to cater to a diverse range of consumers, emphasizing the Land Cruiser’s accessibility and appeal across different market segments.

As the Land Cruiser 70 Series continues to evolve, Toyota reaffirms its commitment to delivering an enduring blend of reliability, performance, and iconic design, making it a stalwart in the world of off-road vehicles.
