KARACHI: Caretaker Provincial Information Minister Muhammad Ahmad Shah said that the book is our identity and if the book culture disappears from the world the civilization would also disappear from the world.

“Books are becoming more expensive due to paper being expensive, paper has become four times more expensive in the last two years. Therefore, the federal government should give subsidy on imported paper,”  the Caretaker Provincial Information Minister expressed these views  on the occasion of his visit to the 18th Karachi International Book Fair here at Expo Center Karachi.

On the third day of the exhibition, Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, Mairajul Huda Siddiqui, Maulana Kokab Noorani Akarvi, MQM senior leader Nasreen Jalil and other prominent social and literary personalities visited.

Muhammad Ahmad Shah while talking to the media said that it is a matter of great joy that there is a large number of people in the book Fair. It can be inferred that the importance of books has not and cannot be lost even in the age of mobile phones.

Ahmed Shah said that the large number of people participating in the book fair is a proof that book lovers are still present.

He said that the fun of flipping the pages cannot be found in a mobile phone. The Minister of Information further said that after the advent of e-books, the business of paper books has not been such a profitable business.
