ISLAMABAD: Outgoing caretaker government has once again dropped another petrol bomb by raising the price by Rs4.13 per liter to Rs279.75 after having massively increased the tariffs of electricity and gas, aggravating the financial burden on an already struggling populace grappling with inflation.

According to a notification issued by the Finance Division, the new price of petrol stands at Rs279.75 per liter, effective until March 15. Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel remains unchanged at Rs287.33 per liter.

Petroleum product prices in Pakistan are adjusted every 15 days to align with global oil price trends and fluctuations in the exchange rate of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar, which has remained relatively stable recently.

This marks the third consecutive price hike by the interim government, which will also be its final adjustment as an elected prime minister is poised to assume office by the week’s end, thus concluding the tenure of the longest-serving caretaker government.

The recent increase was anticipated due to rising global oil prices amid a resurgence in demand, particularly amidst ongoing tensions in the Middle East
