Ramadan 2024: Start Dates for Holy Month in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Gulf States

As the crescent moon heralds the arrival of Ramadan 2024, Muslims across Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and other Gulf countries prepare to embrace this sacred time with reverence and devotion.

According to the International Astronomical Center’s prediction, the crescent moon is anticipated to be sighted on March 10, 2024 (Sunday), marking the beginning of Ramadan.

However, scientific criteria suggest that the chances of sighting the crescent on March 10 are slim. Consequently, it is expected that Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries will commence Ramadan on March 11 (Monday), while other Islamic nations may begin on March 12 (Tuesday).

Ramadan holds immense religious and cultural significance in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where the majority observes the month-long fasting period with profound spiritual dedication. It’s a time for introspection, prayer, and acts of kindness.

Throughout Ramadan, the streets of Gulf nations buzz with activity, particularly in the evenings as families prepare for iftar, the meal to break their fast. Mosques are filled with worshippers attending special evening prayers known as Taraweeh, where verses from the Quran are recited.

The month also fosters stronger bonds within communities as families gather for iftar and suhoor, the pre-dawn meal. Additionally, there’s a prevalent tradition of giving back to the less fortunate, with numerous individuals and organizations organizing charitable activities and events.

Moreover, Ramadan in these nations isn’t solely focused on religious observance; it also incorporates various cultural and entertainment events.

These events offer a blend of traditional and modern activities for individuals to enjoy after breaking their fast, contributing to the overall spirit of camaraderie and celebration during this auspicious month.
