ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has banned the sale and purchase of substandard Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders.

In a statement issued by OGRA, it has been said that action will be taken against unauthorized distributors of marketing companies for selling LPG cylinders and gas.

The notification said that notices have been issued to 313 LPG marketing and 19 cylinder manufacturing companies across the country.

OGRA made the new code of conduct for LPG business and termed LPG refilling in substandard cylinders is illegal and dangerous.

The notification states that only authorized distributors will be able to do LPG business.

OGRA officials said that the incidents of bursting of substandard LPG cylinders had increased so much that all monitoring powers would be vested with Deputy Commissioner (DCs) and Assistant Commissioner (ACs).

Earlier, first meeting of the Economic Advisory Committee under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Muhammad (PM) Shahbaz Sharif was held.

PM Shehbaz decided to give key importance to consultation with economists and private sector in the country’s economic policies and reforms. The meeting discussed the country’s overall economic situation.

The PM asserted that the economic situation is better than before, adding that the government has been working to provide all facilities to private sector to extend economic development, business, investment and provision of jobs since the first day.
