According to WABetaInfo, this feature was marked on the modern Android update of the WhatsApp beta.

As shown in the picture above, the messaging app is also exploring a feature to let users choose if they want the animated images to be auto played or not, and this option is likely to be added right inside the app settings.

The addition of such an option will now grab away all lives for emojis, stickers, and avatars. Another productive bliss this feature would bring is that user will finally be able to clasp auto play settings for some animated content. Note that the toggle button only disables animations for emojis, stickers, and avatars, and does not work for GIFs.
