The New Gwadar International Airport is set to become operational on August 14, according to sources.

A well-placed source in the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been completed for the airport’s opening on this date.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will conduct the soft launch of the airport, the sources added. The New Gwadar International Airport has been built at a cost of Rs54.98 billion.

Located 26 km northeast of the existing Gwadar airport, the new airport spans 3,000 acres of land provided by the government of Pakistan. It is the second greenfield airport in the country, following the new Islamabad Airport.

The airport will be able to handle a variety of aircraft, including the ATR 72, Airbus (A-300), Boeing (B-737), and Boeing (B-747), for both domestic and international flights.

Currently, only four percent of the operational portion remains unfinished, with other developmental works expected to be completed by December 2025.

The New Gwadar International Airport is expected to boost the region’s connectivity and economic growth, playing a vital role in Pakistan’s expanding aviation sector.
