PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has turned down the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s request for a judicial inquiry into the May 9 incidents.
In a letter written by Registrar Peshawar High Court to Advocate General KP, it has been stated that the present form of the petition is in violation of KP Government Rules of Business 1985, due to which this plea cannot be considered.
It may be recalled that Advocate General KP had written a letter to the Registrar Peshawar High Court regarding the judicial commission to investigate the May 9 incidents.
The Advocate General had requested to appoint judicial officers in the petition.
After the Peshawar High Court’s reply, the issue was consulted with Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and it has been decided to take the matter back to the provincial cabinet, while the Chief Minister has said that an inquiry into the May 9 incidents will be held in any case.
Earlier, provincial government wrote to the PHC Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim seeking an investigation into the May 9 incidents that saw military installations including the Rawalpindi’s General Headquarters (GHQ), Lahore Corps Commander’s House being vandalised by mobs.
