ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has nominated four parliamentarians from upper and lower houses for Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP).

The Speaker has written a letter to the Supreme Judicial Commission(SJC) on the issue of forming the Judicial Commission for the appointment of judges in the Supreme Court, in which the nomination of the parliamentary parties has been informed.

According to the National Assembly Secretariat, opposition leader Omar Ayub and Sheikh Aftab of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have been nominated for the Judicial Commission.

It has been informed by the National Assembly Secretariat that Farooq H. Naek and Shibli Faraz have been nominated for the Judicial Commission from the Senate, while Roshan Khursheed Bharucha has been nominated for the woman’s seat.

The JCP will appoint judges to the Supreme Court, High Courts, and Federal Shariat Court. It will also oversee the performance of High Court judges and prepare their annual performance evaluations.

According to the spokesperson of the National Assembly, after the approval of the 26th amendment, the Judicial Commission includes five members of Parliament and all the nominations have been sent to the Secretary Judicial Commission while all the nominations have been received by the Supreme Court.

The spokesperson said that there is equal representation of the government and the opposition in the names sent from the parliament.

It should be noted that after the implementation of the 26th Amendment, a special committee of the Parliament appointed Justice Yahya Afridi as the Chief Justice of Pakistan among the three senior judges of the Supreme Court.
