G7 leaders urge de-escalation in Middle East

Ottawa: In a joint statement issued at the G7 summit in Canada, member countries expressed support for Israel and held Iran responsible for destabilizing the region.

An international news agencies reported, the communiqué called for de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East, a resolution to the crisis involving Iran, and a ceasefire in Gaza. The G7 also emphasized the importance of protecting civilians in all conflict zones.

Reaffirming their longstanding position, the G7 nations stated that Iran must never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons, while endorsing Israel’s right to self-defense and reiterating support for its security.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump declined to sign the final G7 communiqué, objecting to sections that appealed for reducing tensions between Israel and Iran.

According to an American official cited by international news agencies, draft statement, prepared at the G7 summit in Canada, includes an appeal for de-escalation in the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.

It also reaffirms that Iran must never be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons and emphasizes Israel’s right to self-defense.
