A new United Nations investigative report has concluded that the Israeli government is responsible for acts of genocide in Gaza, with senior Israeli officials—including the Prime Minister, former Defence Minister, and President—held accountable for their roles.
According to the findings of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry, Israel’s actions in Gaza demonstrate a clear intent to partially or completely destroy the Palestinian population, which constitutes a breach of international law and the Genocide Convention.
The commission verified this intent through documented political and sexual violence, public statements by officials, and patterns of military conduct. The report emphasized that Israeli forces deliberately targeted civilians using heavy weaponry, resulting in mass casualties, which constitutes crimes against humanity and genocide.
“The Israeli government bears direct responsibility for genocide in Gaza,” said the Chairperson of the UN Commission. “The evidence reveals a systematic campaign aimed at the destruction of the Palestinian people.”
This aligns with earlier findings by Amnesty International, which also labeled Israel’s actions in Gaza as direct acts of genocide.
Grave Violations Against Female Palestinian Prisoners:
The UN report highlights alarming instances of widespread sexual abuse and mistreatment of Palestinian female detainees by Israeli forces. According to the investigation, women in custody were subjected to sexual harassment, physical abuse, and invasive body searches.
Many were stripped of their clothing, photographed without their consent, and had their images circulated on social media. Detainees also faced serious threats to their lives and bodily integrity, with some being forced to remove traditional garments like the burqa in public settings. The report further documents cases of sexual humiliation and public degradation, underscoring the severe and systemic nature of the abuse faced by these women.
“These actions are not isolated incidents but form part of a broader, systemic abuse campaign,” the report stated. “They reflect a clear pattern of gender-based violence and violation of international humanitarian law.”
Calls for Immediate Action:
In response to the findings, the United Nations has called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, urging an end to the violence and suffering endured by civilians. It has also demanded the cessation of Israel’s “starvation policy,” which has led to numerous deaths and widespread humanitarian crisis.
Furthermore, the UN is advocating for the establishment of international accountability mechanisms to investigate and prosecute those responsible for war crimes and acts of genocide, emphasizing the urgent need for justice and the protection of human rights.
The Commission has urged member states to act decisively to prevent further atrocities and to ensure justice for the victims, including Palestinian civilians and detainees.
This report represents one of the most direct condemnations of Israeli actions by a UN body and is likely to spark further international debate and calls for sanctions or legal proceedings at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
