In January of this year, the Lakmé Academy concluded the very first edition of its fashion runway show called “The Showcase” in Goa. Students from the academy performed professional hair and makeup on models who sashayed down Alila Diwa Goa’s runway in clothes designed by Samant Chauhan. In various categories of hair, makeup, and nails, thousands of Lakmé Academy students from all over India took part in the event; The event was judged by Farah Khan, Samant Chauhan, Pravir Arora, Chief Marketing Officer of Aptech Limited, and Lakmé Lever Pushkraj Shenai, Chief Executive Officer. More than 500 people were selected to take part in the grand finale. Additionally, at the conclusion of the show, participants from South Campus in Delhi were awarded the Gold prize and the chance to collaborate with Farah Khan on her subsequent project.

“The theme that was given to our team – ‘The Blings’ – for the final look that we co-curated with designer Samant Chauhan, was ‘Dark Victoria,'” the winning team said in celebration of their victory. We kept the eyes bright, used metallic lips, and the entire look was glossy. The hairstyle was supposed to be a traditional twist-and-turn European updo. Each of us performed our duties admirably. We were both anxious and excited as we watched the model, whose look we had created, walk down the runway in front of such influential industry professionals.

“An event like The Showcase is one of a kind in and of itself, it is a part of the curriculum, and it helps our students acquire real-world social skills like teamwork, leadership, resilience, and working under pressure and time constraints. In 2018, we came up with the idea for Showcase, but the pandemic prevented us from carrying out our plans. Therefore, this is the first Showcase edition that provides students from all over the country with opportunities. Pravir Arora, chief marketing officer of Aptech Limited, stated, “In the end, we aim to build our students’ softer skills alongside the domain skills that they learn in their class.”

“With its young talent pool that is armed with craftsmanship and passion, India is well-positioned to grow and play a dominant role in the world. “Pushkaraj Shenai, CEO of Lakmé Lever, added, “Our core purpose at Lakmé Academy is to ignite the aspirations of talented students and provide them with a platform to demonstrate their creativity.”

“I am genuinely excited to be here at The Showcase because we need a new infusion of talent in the industry and also the winning team will work with me on my next project,” Farah Khan, a choreographer and film director, stated. Therefore, in that regard, I believe The Showcase to be an excellent initiative. The students’ teamwork, innovative styling, and great makeup are what I’m hoping for.”
