Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has visited the earthquake-affected areas of Azad Kashmir, ISPR reported on Tuesday.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the COAS also reviewed the ongoing damage repair efforts at Jatlan Canal Road.

In a tweet, Director General ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor quoted the COAS Bajwa as saying that normalcy be restored with speed rendering full assistance to civil administration and taking best possible care of the affected population.

Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider Wednesday visited earthquake-hit areas of Mirpur and directed to further expedite the relief operation.

The Prime Minister listened to problems of the quake-affected people and ordered for resolving these issues. He directed the AJK officials to provide tents to all affectees by tonight.

He said women and children should be provided relief on priority basis. The quake-hit people would be rehabilitated as soon as possible, he added.

Earlier, Director-General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (DG-ISPR) taking to the social networking website Twitter, informed of the orders issued by General Qamar Javed Bajwa with regards to the relief efforts.

Yesterday, the strong earthquake of 5.8 magnitude has brought disasters to different parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) which claimed at least 22 lives and more than 300 left injured so far.

The quake hit some urban and rural parts of the AJK including Muzaffarabad, Kotli and many other scattered places.

The death toll rised to 22 in the affected areas primarily Mirpur and Jatlan of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir which was previously stood at 2 after the emergence of initial reports.

According to the reports, at least 22 people lost their lives and more than 300 people received injuries as 11 deaths are reported in Jatlan and 8 in Mirpur.
