Prime Minister Imran Khan, along with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Malaysian counterpart Mahathir Mohamad agreed on possible measures to counter Islamophobia.

Pakistan, Turkey and Malaysia have announced to jointly start an English language channel, dedicated to confronting the challenges posed by Islamophobia.

Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted explaining the need of English language Islamic television channel.

“President Erdogan, PM Mahatir and myself had a meeting today in which we decided our three countries would jointly start an English language channel dedicated to confronting the challenges posed by Islamophobia and setting the record straight on our great religion – Islam,” PM Imran said on his official twitter account.

In a followup tweet PM said, “Misperceptions which bring people together against Muslims would be corrected; issue of blasphemy would be properly contextualized; series & films would be produced on Muslim history to educate/inform our own people & the world; Muslims would be given a dedicated media presence.”

The decision came out as a conclusion to yesterday’s trilateral meeting between Pakistan, Turkey and Malaysia, which was held a in New York to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in a broad range of areas.

It was participated by Prime Minister Imran Khan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Mahathir Muhammad of Malaysia.

The meeting also exchanged views on regional and global developments and trends.

The Foreign Ministers of Pakistan, Malaysia and Turkey held the first ministerial trilateral meeting at the sidelines of the 14th OIC Summit in Jeddah in May this year.

Keeping in view the magnitude of bilateral cooperation between Pakistan, Malaysia and Turkey, the three Foreign Ministers had decided to hold trilateral summit meeting on sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session.
